Carrowkeel is more than 5,000 years old, older than Newgrange, and of the same tradition. They are among the very best stone age remains in Europe. These cairns containing the tombs are some of the oldest buildings on earth, a memorial of Neolithic Ireland. They were built by some of the first farmers who were worshipping Mother Earth. From Carrowkeel, you can see as far as Carrowmore another, related megalithic site just outside Sligo town.
The Enchanting Tomb
The greatest treasure of the smooth green hill is a grave that is located in the heart of the site. It has never been excavated, but there are at least two suspicions about what hides inside.
First, it is believed that it contains a passage tomb dated to the Neolithic period. Secondly, many believe that the famous Fairy Queen is buried in a tomb inside this 327-meter (1,073 ft.) limestone hill.
The most important part of the site is called Medb’s Varin, which is about 55 meters (180 ft.) wide and 10 meters (33ft) high. It is one of the most intriguing of the unexplored archaeological sites in Ireland and is known as the tomb of Medb or Maeve. Researchers suggest that it is about 5000 years old and, due to its long history, it became a place entwined with legend and myth. As long as the site remains unexcavated, it is impossible to conclude what it may hold. Researchers suggest that it is possible that the mysterious tomb belongs to a known Neolithic religious center in this area. However, tourists from around the world come to enjoy the hill with the burial of an ancient fairy queen.

The Cliffs of Moher, a Unesco World Heritage site
The breathtaking landscape of the Cliffs of Moher has also inspired numerous legends.
One of these, for instance, relates to a rock formation known as Hag’s Head. According to this legend, there was a witch called Mal who was madly in love with Cu Chulainn, a legendary hero in Irish mythology. Cu Chulainn, however, did not reciprocate these feelings, causing Mal to chase him all over Ireland. The pair eventually arrived south of the Cliffs of Moher, on the mouth of the Shannon River, and the hero leapt to Diarmuid and Grainne’s Rock, an island. Mal followed, and, thanks to a gust of wind, landed on the island too. As soon as the witch got onto the island, Cu Chulainn leapt back, and the witch followed. Unfortunately, there was no wind this time, and Mal fell to her death. The rocks on which Mal fell became known as Hag’s Head, as they are believed to have taken on the shape of Mal’s profile.
Another legend tells of a sunken city called Kilstiffen. According to this tale, the city sank under the waves when the chieftain lost the golden key that opened the doors of the castle. The legend also states that the city will remain submerged until the golden key is returned. Some have claimed that the underwater city can be seen below the surface of the sea, whilst others believe that the city rises once every seven years. There may be a basis for this legend, as submerged forests and bogs from ancient times are visible within the reef of Liscannor Bay.
Portmagee - Skellig Island
We settle in our coastal hotel where we indulge in the energies of the Summer Solstice!
Skellig Michael the larger of two ancient towering majestic sea crags, that are pyramidal in their structure. “Little Skellig”, is the adjacent smaller peak. The islands are situated 12km off the south west coast of Ireland in the wilds of the Atlantic Ocean.
Many believe they are mountain peaks from the Atlantean era, still carrying the energies of those times both dark & light. It is a natural temple where two intersecting earth leylines cross, creating a node of energy that is very powerful.
The island was the chosen home of a small group of ascetic monks back in the 6th – 13th Century, who sought deeper communion with God in isolation from the outside world. The remains of this monastery are still intact; the stone beehive geometric structures are alive with spirit evoking energies imprinted in the stones from these devout hermits. The islands are designated as a world UNESCO heritage site, so there is a limit to daily visits due to the delicate nature of the archaeology, protected sea birds and plant life.
Skellig Michael is on the western edge of the European landmass. It is the first sacred site along a leyline of ancient pilgrimage places running from the entry point of the leyline in Ireland through the UK Glastonbury, St. Michaels Mount, France, Italy, Greece then onto Mt.Carmel in Israel.
This line is known as the “Michael” Leyline through its alignment with Archangel Michael who the guardian and overseer of this energy line. It was known for thousands of years before the advent of Christianity, and linked many holy places of earth and cosmic power.
It was known as the “Atlas Line” in Atlantis; much of the energetics of this ancient leyline are said to have been largely kept intact by the work of the druids and key grid keepers since the fall of Atlantis.
On a planetary level, this island, as a multi-dimensional portal, is pivotal to the integration of the divine masculine codes for humanity’s evolution. The energy that emits from this portal extends in all directions for hundreds of miles. It is a point of cosmic energy and earth merging as one. As such it can be a place of merging the polarities in oneself ~ male/female rebalance. The color rays that emanate, for those attuned, are the violet, emerald & blue rays.
In our destination Lough Gur we will spend our day in this ancient amazing Sacred Sight
Eight hundred years before the stone alignments at Newgrange was first conceived, and over an entire millennium prior to the construction of the great pyramids in Egypt, Stone Age Man landed on a craggy green island on Lough Gur, and established a permanent settlement that would endure the passage of time like no other.
Lough Gur itself is not filled by streams or rivers, in fact its, crystalline waters are nourished by underground springs that rise from deep within the belly of the Earth. Intriguingly, these springs originate from ancient subterranean reservoirs that preside deep in the belly of Earth. When the ancients came across these natural springs, they must have had an inherent awareness of the age and purity of the water, because archaeological digs have uncovered evidence of Neolithic cultural activities that indicate such places were revered as sacred sites.
Grange Stone Circle is one such ‘power place’, located on the western shore of Lough Gur, it is said to be positioned exactly where the Earth’s lay lines intersect. Consisting of 113 megaliths stones, Grange is the greatest stone circle of its kind in Ireland. Constructed in prehistoric times, it was aligned with incredible precision in a specific way that allows it to work as a giant solar calendar, which still indicates clearly to this day the exact point of the summer solstice.
It is no wonder then that Lough Gur holds a place of heightened significance in Irish Mythology. Untold secrets of the ages remain hidden here, and, if you sit by the water’s edge on a calm day, gazing at the lake’s smoky, silken surface, there is a chance that the rippled reflections of sky might just clear and offer a fleeting glimpse of some long-forgotten treasures below.
But do take heed and don’t gaze for too long, or you may be disturbing Áine, the unforgiving Queen of the Fairies, or worse still you might happen to lock eyes with the most feared hag of all, the notorious bean sí (banshee).
Hill of Tara and Newgrange
Newgrange is a Stone Age monument in the Boyne Valley, County Meath, Ireland. It was built about 3200 BC during the Neolithic period, which makes it older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids. Newgrange is a large circular mound with a stone passageway and chambers inside. The mound is ringed by ‘curbstones’ engraved with artwork.
Archaeologists classified Newgrange as a passage tomb, however Newgrange is now recognized to be much more than a passage tomb. Ancient Temple is a more fitting classification, a place of astrological, spiritual, religious and ceremonial importance.
The Hill of Tara, was once the ancient seat of power in Ireland – 142 kings are said to have reigned there in prehistoric and historic times. In ancient Irish religion and mythology Temair was the sacred place of dwelling for the gods, and was the entrance to the otherworld. Saint Patrick is said to have come to Tara to confront the ancient religion of the pagans at its most powerful site.

Meet your Sacred Journey Guides:
I am so excited to collaborate with Julie from Spirit and Adventure. It is the next step for me as I share my love of travel and of visiting Sacred Sites with others.
As a Shamanic Practitioner, Channel and Intuitive Guide, I help clients to clear what no longer serves them while opening them to the full possibilities of their soul.
I specialize in energetic clearings and soul embodiment assistance, as these were the two things that propelled me on my journey to self.
I offer practical advice and understand the demands that can be placed on a soul in transition. I also understand the cost of not honoring our true self and our calling and use that information to assist others in reconnecting with their highest aspect.
I strive to teach by empowering each person to be their own master, their own healer. I work in depth with a person helping to facilitate the clearing of blocks, chakra healing, and the daily maintenance tools that can help you on this journey. My main goal is to empower the person to look within, to trust and love themselves completely.
Sacred Journey’s assist with this as it helps to connect with the ancient knowledge, energy, timelines and codes.
There is something Magical that happens when we physically interact with the energy and codes available at sacred sites, It often is a catalyst for remembering who we are at a soul level and activates deep healing and change.
I am looking forward to supporting the group through their individual process with energetic healings, clearings, and integration.
It will be an amazing time of self discovery and growth!

Welcome to SPIRIT and ADVENTURE. It was “Birthed” from my own Inspirational travels to many remote places and feeling how enormously expansive a Sacred Journey was. The diversity of culture, terrain, food and the power-ful energy flowing through oddly familiar lands and Sacred sights, showed me the potential that was often hidden within.
The Potential within these sights for growth and healing evermore beckoned and lead to years of stringent training which became my apprenticeship.
- An understanding of the Human Biology, through Fitness, Yoga and Tai-chi.
- Training in various, fascinating Healing modalities, including, Reiki Mastership.
- Studying intensely to graduation with Nine Gates Mystery School.
On retreat for several weeks in India with Spiritual Masters and trekking alone through Tibet all helped me understand that others, stories, encounters, or photographs have value of course, however, cannot access the inner realms and timelines as a physical onsite experience.
Having spent time working with USO in Germany, organising and leading tours for the United States Military and their families was the final piece of preparation to launch Spirit and Adventure. At 3 am one morning I leaped out of bed to find the domain name of SpiritandAdventure.com as Divinely guided. It was time!
I am guided to each Sacred Journey, the timing, and organisation and the forming of the final group is like writing a Divine Symphony. The Journey itself always the most amazing Adventure. Small groups of dedicated like minded people travelling together in safety and comfort, forever changed, is so rewarding.
I look forward to meeting and sharing the next Spirit and Adventure, Sacred Journey,
Until then, LOVE from my Heart to yours
